Etta V. Sloan Gallegly, Senatobia MS Estate Sale Part 4

Coz. Etta Sloan Gellegly
Martha Gallegly's mother
Etta V. Sloan was a daughter of William Robert Rowell Sloan and Martha E. Williams. She was born in 1870 and died in 1949. She married Samuel Eugene Gallegly circa 1889.

Etta and Samuel had three daughters: Mellie Irene Gallegly, Martha "Mattie" Gallegly and Annie Inez Gallegly. Mattie is the only child to survive infancy and it is her name that is referenced in the annotation.

"Coz. Etta Sloan Gallegly, Martha Gallegly's mother."

Whoever annotated the images used "Coz." several times to indicate a cousin connection.

William Edward Sloan, Senatobia MS Estate Sale Part 3

William Edward Sloan
William Edward Sloan was born March 3 1887 and died September 1 1900 in Senatobia Mississippi. He was a son of Thomas Edward Sloan and Martha Janie Agnes Brown. William appears in the 1900 Census as a student.
The annotation says "William Edward Sloan died in 1900. I think. My Bubber Ed".  I would assume it was one of his siblings since he is referred to as "Bubber Ed"  but exactly which sibling I can't say for sure.  If I were to take a guess, I'd say it was either his sister Minnie Sloan or sister Mattie Sloan.  Minnie married Carter C. Parnell in 1903.  After her death, Carter married Mattie. He had children with both sisters.

Fascinating Finds
Pre-covid, we attended an estate sale. As I recall it was located in Senatobia MS. My maternal grandmother was from Senatobia so I was hoping I might find something relating to her family. But, I didn't. What I did find was an amazing collection of photographs with most of them being annotated. The oldest item is a small ledger belonging to William M. Carter and dates back to 1846.
Check back soon for the next installment in this series.

Welcome

Make yourself comfortable...

I've been collecting images and other ephemera off and on for about 20 years.  A great deal of it is family related but not all.  What do I do with the items that have no connection to our family?  I research them and give them as much attention as I do to those individuals who are related to us.
I  also add names of individuals to Find-a-Grave when I locate burial information and I add photo's and obituaries when possible.  A particular research favorite of mine is Elmwood Cemetery. Their motto is "Memphis at rest since 1852".
Most of my research involves Memphis and the mid-south.  So, if you or your ancestors are/were from this area you might find something of interest in what I share.
